  • Why choose real grass indoor potty solution?

It is pretty obvious to anybody who owns a dog that their dog prefers to "washroom" on real grass. Dogs do not need to be trained to use grass, because they already instinctively know this. Of course you could force your dog to go potty on other surfaces such as paper pee pads or plastic grass, but this is done by force.  In nature wild dogs and wolves refuse to urinate inside of their own dens, but domestic dogs are sometimes forced into this unnatural position due it new indoor lifestyle. It is not natural for dogs to go to the washroom indoors but our indoor grass mats provide the closest thing possible to a natural setting inside your house. Because it is grass it does not develop a stale urine smell or look ugly.

  • Reasons that people use Real Grass subscription service

    Senior dogs

    House training puppies

As a more natural replacement to synthetic pads

    Extended work hours

Long elevator waits in Condos and Hi rises

    During bad weather

    Mobility impaired dogs

  • Is real grass better than fake grass?

Yes. Fake grass starts to get rancid after proteins from dog urine collects. Real grass breaks down these odour causing build-ups.  Almost all dog naturally like smelling and using real grass.

(long form) Many people have tried using synthetic and the results are generally poor. After a few days the urine starts to decay and smell really bad. Because the plastic grass has no ability to break down and neutralize the urine it just pools up in the bottom of the tray and stagnates. Trying to carry a tray full of urine is a balancing act that normally leads to spills in your house. Even worse, you will be conditioning your dog to eliminate on an artificial plastic mat. This is extremely confusing for any dog. Your carpet, laminate and even wood floors will suffer because of this. In some extreme cases, dogs will refuse to urinate on anything other than plastic because this is what they have been trained to do. Use our real grass solution so that your dog does not have to face this confusion.

  • What is Wrong with using pee pads?

Dogs in a natural outdoor environment never use pee pads. We tested this by placing pee pads in high dog density areas (off leash dog parks). Our observations showed that dogs are not interested in using pee pads or synthetic plastic imitation grass when real natural grass is available to use. (PIC)

Every dog owner can recognize the simple fact that dogs will always seek out and eliminate on grass whenever outdoors. They do not need to be trained or conditioned to do this. It is their natural behavior.

Dogs will avoid concrete, pebbles, dirt, wood and almost anything else until they find some grass to do their business on, if given a choice.

Pee pads are very ugly. Lets face it, pee pads look disgusting. Do you you really want to see a yellow stained pad when you come home from work or you wake up? Are you sick of cringing as you and your guests come home to be faced with a nasty used pee pad?

  • Does this help Senior Dogs and Mobility impaired pets?

Your dog has been by your side many years. He has always had no problems going to he washroom outdoors, but now he struggles. You old dog may be suffering from arthritis or other issues. As he ages his bladder may become weaker. It is hard for him to understand what is happening to his body as he is no longer able to "hold" like he used to in his younger years.

Your dog has spent its entire life going to the washroom outdoors on grass and he knows that is the only place he has been doing it. Now that his mobility is impaired and his joints are sore and his bladder weakens you will try to make him more comfortable.

Many dog owners have tried to teach their dogs to go indoors, which is very hard for some dogs to accept. No dog wants to urinate inside his own den. After a lifetime of going washroom only when outdoors, he does not want to change his habits to what he knows will be "wrong". Using a pee pad inside the house is a completely alien concept to many dogs, and they would rather suffer and endure the pain of "holding" instead. When their bladders finally give out and they have an accident inside the house they become submissive and ashamed.

Please consider using our real grass indoor solution to help your dog and allow him to maintain his dignity. Old dogs and injured pets have special needs, so be sure to discuss this with you vet.

  • Does this help dogs that hate the bad weather? PART 1

Many dogs love snow. Unfortunately many dogs do not like snow at all. They will endure it because they have to do so because they are forced by their owners to go out during bad weather. Also many dogs would would rather suffer outside instead of having an humiliating "accident" indoors.

Some dogs hate the feel of cold snow on their paws and bellies. It is sharp, often salty and it burns sensitive paw pads. These problems are worse if your dog is extra fearful or getting old. Joints hurt more, and familiar scents are harder to track for dogs with vision problems.

If your dog has arthritis he defiantly will feel it more when the temperature drops along with the added danger of slippery/icy sidewalks. Snow will quickly develop into hard ice-balls between your dogs toes, spreading them apart painfully.

The smaller you dog is the higher his surface area to weight ratio is. This means he will cool down at a much faster rate compared to a larger dog or a human. Puppies especially need to be careful. During cold weather blood rushes inwards to protect vital organs and maintain his inner core temperature. Mean while your dogs his extremities (paws, tails, ears) will suffer lower circulation and become extremely cold. Extended periods of cold can cause frostbite (possible loss of affected area) and hypothermia (can lead to death).

  • Does this help dogs that hate the bad weather? PART 2

Skinny dogs and short legged dogs also suffer more in cold weather compared to some breeds. Short legs make it hard to navigate snow drifts and splashing sludge will quickly drench many dogs naked bellies. Unless your dog is a Husky type breed, your domestic dogs fur does not have much insulating properties left. Shih Tzus, Pekingeses, Lhasa Apos, Terriers, Salukis are all very closely related to the wolf but their fur is no long the great weather barrier that it once was. Wolves can survive extreme temperatures. Your house dog is not nearly as capable of enduring extreme temperatures.

Chemical hazards. When the weather starts to approach freezing, most sidewalks and roads are quickly peppered with road salt. This salt will burn sensitive paw pads which can be extremely painful and create dry, cracked and splitting pads, which become even more sensitive to road salt.

Puddles of water may contain antifreeze and other nasty chemicals such as lawn pesticides and motor oils that have accumulated over the summer. Leptospirosis is a devastating bacteria born disease that can led to catastrophic kidney failure. The incidence of canine Leptospirosis dramatically increases during periods of rainfall in Canada.

Of course there are some dogs that just do not like getting wet or who are frightened of thunder. Snow and ice just plain annoys them.

Our real grass solution allows your dog to weather these unfavourable conditions by providing real grass indoors, without the risk of permanently changing your dogs normal good manners. He will not be confused and will still consider real grass as the only place to potty, whether it is indoors, on the patio or his standard spots at the park..

  • When does the grass arrive?

    When does the grass arrive?

Every two weeks. Our grass patches are delivered every 2 weeks

  • What areas do you deliver to?

Currently we deliver to Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond. We will soon be expanding to all of BC so if you are outside of our current service area, be sure to send an email to info@realgrass.ca to find out when Real Grass comes to your area.

  • How are my grass patches delivered?

We use a local delivery company to courier the grass to you.

  • Is your grass covered in pesticides or bugs?

Our grass goes through a rigorous proprietary process to ensure that they are free of any chemicals. The soil is removed along with any worms and the whole patch is bathed in a natural pet safe, bug repelling solution to remove gnats, ants or any other insects. Our process also reduces the weight of the grass from 35 pounds to around 10 pounds, which is much more manageable, with out affecting its odour neutralizing abilities. A very light coating of eco safe enzymes is applied to the bottom of each grass patch further boost the grasses natural or odour neutralizing power.

  • Do you have different sizes?

Sorry, no. Our standard size is pretty large. 2 foot by 3 foot. During our testing we found that smaller patches are less effective for large dogs. If you really want to use a smaller size you can contact customer service and we can have your grass cut into smaller pieces (24inch x  18 inch, similar to competing companies) and provide you with smaller trays as well. We highly recommend putting one roll of grass in a refrigerator or cool place, and replacing the other piece after 1 week, so that your dog can enjoy clean grass for two weeks.

  • Where does the urine go? How does it magically disappear?

The liquids are absorbed by the grass and the root structure. The salts and smelly proteins are naturally broken down the same way it happens outdoors (our added enzymes turbo boost the breakdown). Most of the remaining water content is quickly evaporated due to the large surface area of the grass and roots. The underlying tray is 100% water proof with an overflow capacity of 10L (large enough for a horses output – though not recommended for horse use)

  • What is wrong with using fake synthetic grass?

This seems like a great idea. At least it does not look as disgusting a pee stained pee pad.

Many people have tried this and the results are poor.

  • What happens if my dog is really sick and ruins the grass completely?

If your dog has a bout of diarrhea you have a few options

    1) Take the grass outdoors or to a suitable area and thoroughly hose down the whole grass patch. Because the grass is extremely light, approx 10 to 15 pounds, this can easily be accomplished by leaning the grass against a wall at a 45 degree angle and spaying it for 2 to 3 minutes. Allow most of the water to drain by keeping it leaned up for at least 2 hours. (or until water stops dripping out)

    2) Using scissors, cut out the offending area and either rinse or discard.

    3) Contact us and request an emergency replacement grass which depending on availability we will try to have delivered to you as soon as possible. This service is offered at our discretion.

  • Our dog is really big. Will this work for him?

Our grass patches are pretty large so even dogs up to 50 pounds should be fine. If you want to double up your trays and put them side by side, you can double up your order. We offer the second grass patch at a heavily discounted price.

  • Do I need to water the grass?

Watering depends on your climate. In winter and cool weather watering is not required. During the hot summer months watering the grass does help keep it green and supple. Try to place the grass so that it is not exposed to direct sunlight, to prevent it from drying up.

  • What about overflows?

Our tray is 24inch x 90 inch x 1 inch. This gives them a 35L (total) holding capacity. After taking the volume of the grass mat into account, which takes up about one half of the volume, leaves us with around 15-20 liters available for urine. The average 20 pound dog will only be able to produce .25 to .5 liter of urine.

Although the numbers show that our indoor grass mats have the capability of not overflowing even with huge amounts of liquid, in reality it is not meant to be used like this. 15 litres of liquid will not be broken down and neutralized in a 24hour window even with our enzyme odour neutraliser.

Our trays are 100% percent waterproof. They will not leak or "absorb" urine smell at all.

They are extremely strong and durable. They will not crack or become brittle and can stand up to even the harshest punishment.

  • What is the proper way to recycle/dispose of the soiled grass?

    Throw away in garbage

  • Where should I place the grass?

We recommend putting the grass on the balcony or patio.

  • Can I cancel anytime?

    Yes.

  • What is your refund policy?

If you are unhappy with our grass, we are happy to provide a refund.

No contract plan. You may cancel anytime. One tray included with order.
